Automatic Respawning Props

- By Object
This tutorial was last updated on Mar 1, 2006.

To place a respawnable prop into your map, first place a prop_physics_respawnable into your map where you want the prop to first spawn at the begining of the round. Be sure that that you place the entity high enough that when it is loaded in you map, the model is not clipping into any brushes, this will cause your model not to respawn.

Select the entity with the arrow tool, then right click on it in any of hammer's 2d views or hold down "alt + enter" on your keyboard. This will bring up the entity's properties menu. From here, you must set a few inportant keyvalues( located in the scrolling menu on the left side of the menu, under where you select the entity type).

"World Model" - The location on your harddrive of the model that this prop will display in game, use the browse button to see a list of all standard hl2 models.

"explosion damage" - If set to a number above zero, this prop will the specified amount of damage to anyone within the explosion radius.

"explosion radius" - The size of the area that will be affected by the explosion.( testing shows that not all parts of the radius recive the same amount of damage, farther away, less damage )

"Respawn Time" - The amount of time that will elapse after the destruction of the prop before it is respawned to its origional locatino in the map.

Can you create a brush, and tie that to the prop_physics_respawnable, and have the brush explode and then respawn... or does this only apply to prop/models?

I'm sorry, this tutorial should have been filed in the Half-Life 2 Deathmatch section. For copying and dynamic recreation of other entities, or entities in other mods, use a point_template entity.
